We are fairly easy-going at Topp Performance. We are busy, you are busy, everyone’s lives are busy. But we do have a few gym rules that we try to administer for everyone.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us below, or ask a coach.
1. Be on Time
No, we won’t lock you out if you are late… But, we do have a lot to cover in each class to utilize our time with everyone. So do your best to be there a few minutes early if possible. However, if you show up a bit late, please wait at the edge of the mat for an adult instructor to invite you into the matted training area.
2. Check your Ego
You may do well in some workouts, and you may do poorly in others. Who cares. The coaches will always be there to help bring you up or down if needed. The martial arts is about self development as individuals and as a team. We encourage all members to help bring others up on and off the mats. We are one.
3. Introduce Yourself
If you don’t recognize someone… introduce yourself. Maybe it’s their first day, and they are nervous. A friendly introduction goes a long way!
Please be sure your finger nails and toe nails are cut as this can cause injuries to others. Keep your body clean – there’s nothing you can do about developing some body odor as you train, but arriving clean and smelling good shows respect for others. No colognes or perfumes, please, as some people are allergic. Also, guys, unless you sport a full beard please be clean-shaven – whiskers rubbing against someone else’s skin during sparring can leave behind a painful rash. Respect the body, mind, and soul.
Finally, no swearing. Not only are there often children present but foul language adds nothing to training, and shows disrespect for others.
5. Children at the shop
We love children at the gym for many reasons… but, we don’t want any children to get hurt. Please be attentive and stay within arm’s length of your child while in the lobby area. We encourage all family members to come watch and support each other. We also need to be respectful of other classes in operation while we are waiting.
6. Clean up after yourself
We don’t encourage people to push themselves so much that their hands rip, and they bleed down their wrists. But it happens. All students are required to stay and help clean the dojo or training area used when class is finished. This is a tradition that has carried on for thousands of years and we will always uphold these at TOPP.
7. Proper Uniform
We offer all the proper uniforms, belts and protective gear at the dojo. Any martial art is a discipline and we thrive on that aspect of our program. All students must wear a GI or uniform required in each class. The GI needs to be clean and properly sized for the student to be able to have the best experience in the class.
